PRESENTATION

At the end of the20th century, it is seen the boom of quantum computation and information:a new branch of physics that in the last years has had a great development, taking quantum mechanics as a fundamental tool at the implementation of computing systems. It makes use of several mathematics and physics areas, and it even takes some from computational complex theory, group theory, and so forth; but there are some more reasons to believe that the advanced mathematics will play a main role on the extensive development of this field.

Present investigations on these topics are set out for production of hardware and software, leading to obtain a quantum computer.Given these reasons, and because we would like to contribute to the development of this field, we are pleased to announce the 2nd National Meeting of Quantum Computing and Quantum Information (CIC2005) which will take place at the city of Popayán – Colombia on May 25-27 of 2005.

This event is a continuation of the 1st Meeting made in Popayan on 2002 which commemorated the 20th anniversary of the publication of the first paper related to computing systems based on quantum mechanics wrote by Richard Feynman on 1982, and it is framed within the festivities of “World Year of Physics 2005” that celebrates the 100th anniversary of Albert Einstein’s “miraculous year” in which he published three important papers describing ideas that have since influenced all of modern physics.

This meeting pretends to highlight and show to the community the advantages and advances of quantum computation and information made in the last years not only in a national level, but also international, helping besides as a communication link between several groups in our country.
